What are you doing this weekend? Have a The Fifth Element Theme Party! Cuddle up with your honey or enjoy a night with some friends watching this science fiction cult classic.
How can you not love Luc Besson’s The Fifth Element? A wonderfully quirky film starring Bruce Willis, Milla Jovovich, and Gary Oldman sends one straight to geek heaven. Here’s your recipe for a night full of fandom fun, Fifth Element style.
Watch
The star of your theme night is clearly going to be the movie.
The Fifth Element
(1997) (2 hrs, 6 min long)
“Not one or two or three, but four stones!” -Jean-Baptiste Emanuel Zorg
Drink
Did you know there’s actually a drink called “Fifth Element?” To make it, you’ll need:
- 1 oz. Bacardi 151 rum
- 1 oz. Southern Comfort
- 2 oz. pineapple juice
- 2 oz. lemon-lime soda
- Top off with Everclear
This drink is not for the faint of heart. Feel free to be heavy-handed with that soda.
Now to truly take it to The Fifth Element level, after you mix two batches of this drink, separate it into five different glasses. You’re going to use food coloring to color one red for fire, one green for earth, one blue for water, one gold for wind (I used just a tiny bit of orange to get the color), and leave one the color of the drink to signify the fifth element. And voila! You have drinks worthy of the Supreme Being herself.
Eat
Throughout the movie, we see a variety of foods being consumed: McDonalds, Thai food, and lots of chicken. The best way to celebrate your Fifth Element theme party is to serve an eclectic buffet of foods that make absolutely no sense together.
“Negative, I am a meat popsicle.” -Korben Dallas
Play
Video Game: Apparently, there was a video game for The Fifth Element a million years ago back in 1998. I’m not sure I’d recommend trying that during your theme night…
Trivia: Did you know the language spoken by Leeloo was invented by director Luc Besson and further refined by Milla Jovovich?
Drinking Game: I didn’t find any drinking games out there I found to be especially great. So here’s one I developed! Take the specified drink whenever there are the following:
- Sip:
- Explosions
- Symbol of the elements
- Someone tries to impersonate Korben Dallas
- Ruby Rhod screams
- Swig:
- The evil causes someone to ooze
- Someone attempts to use a weapon ineffectively
- Ruby Rhod buzzes
- Chug:
- Bada-boom
- Guilt trip from Korben’s mom
- A box doesn’t have the stones in it
- Finish it!:
- Plavalaguna finishes her opera piece
- They escape imminent danger
