Are you ready to dive into learning how to throw a Starship Troopers theme party? Well let’s go – on the bounce!
Watch
Starship Troopers
(1997) (2 hr, 10 min)
(Streaming on Amazon)
Enjoy the movie for the campy fun that it is. Bonus: Neil Patrick Harris, pre-HIMYM.
Starship Troopers 2:
Hero of the Federation
(2004) (1 hr, 31 min)
(Available on DVD)
Left over props and B-roll from the first film? This is terrible. I would not like to know more.
Starship Troopers 3:
Marauder (2008) (1 hr, 45 min)
(Streaming on Amazon)
I feel like Casper Van Dien was trying to bring the movie back the real essence of Starship Troopers. Despite his efforts, the movie is still no good.
Starship Troopers: Invasion (2012) (1 hr, 29 min)
(Streaming on Amazon)
Animated film. I didn’t get a chance to watch this. From the trailer it looks like it has potential.
“You know what to do!” -Colonel Johnnie Rico
Bug Juice
- Fill glass with ice
- One shot silver tequila
- One and a half shots sour apple pucker
- Top off with pineapple juice
- Garnish with a cherry of desired
- This is a tart drink, but you will want this to cut the spice of the food
If you’re looking for a drinking game to accompany the first movie, Drinking Cinema breaks one down nicely.
Eat
Ready to eat?
Johnnie Rico’s Jalapeños
- Six jalapeños
- Four pieces of bacon, cut into thirds
- Half brick of cream cheese (1.5 oz)
- Shredded cheddar cheese, a quarter of a cup
- Half jalapeños and use a spoon to scoop out seeds
- Wash jalapeños
- Fill jalapeños with cream cheese
- Top with cheddar cheese
- Wrap with bacon
- Use toothpicks to hold bacon down (soak toothpicks in water for at least 15 min if grilling)
- Heat oven to 400 degrees
- Recommend placing jalapeños on a wire rack on top of a pan to drain fat
- Cook in oven 25-30 min
- If grilling, heat up grill and cook for 15-20 min, open side down first and then flip over as soon as cheese starts to melt
- Let cool and serve!
These represent Argentinian food (where Rico was from) about as much as the movie represents the book. They’re spicy deliciousness so just go with it! 😉
“Come on you apes, you wanna live forever?”
I love this game. You can have up to four players in coop and while not directly related to the Starship Troopers movies or book, it might as well be.
As a member of the Helldivers, you shoot down onto planets to defeat enemies (a lot of which look like bugs). You get plenty of cool gear, including a mech suit, which I of course use extensively to blow up everything in my path.
“What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly…it would be strange indeed if so celestial an article as FREEDOM should not be highly rated.”
-Thomas Paine, quote at beginning of Chapter 6, Starship Troopers
Alright ya’ll, I’m going to be a stickler on this one. Read the book! Robert Heinlein is a must-read author. While much different than the campy fun of the movie, the book is probably one of my favorite books ever.
Starship Troopers Marauder Action Figure
Looks like it was inspired by the third movie. It’s pretty cool, but not what I imagined the suits looking like based upon the book.
Now that you’ve learned how to throw your very own Starship Troopers Theme Party, go enjoy your evening – on the bounce!
