Planning a romantic Valentine’s evening with zombies for your zombie-loving valentine? Look no further. Here are the top 5 things to do with your zombie-loving valentine.
1. Watch Rom Com Zom Movies
Warm Bodies
This movie holds a special place in my heart as my husband took me to see it on the day he proposed, awww. Also known as Romeo and Juliet, with zombies. Somehow manages to make zombies adorable.
Shaun of the Dead
Does this movie need explanation? If you consider yourself any kind of zombie fan, you must see this movie. Preferably multiple times, over a pint…or multiple pints. What happens when your average (English) Joe tries to survive a zombie epidemic.
Zombieland
What happens when four dysfunctional people try to survive in a post-apocalyptic zombie-infested world? Shenanigans, of course. This movie is hilarious, watch it. Watch it now.
Aaah! Zombies!!
(also titled Wasting Away)
What? Did you think I was just going to name all the mainstream Zom Rom Coms? This is a light-hearted romp through the perspective of zombies who don’t know they’re zombies. A cute bit of zombie fun.
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies
My husband and I saw it last Valentine’s Day. It was pretty good. A little long, but decently integrated zombies into the Pride and Prejudice world. Made for a good date night.
2. TV Show Binge for Your Brains
Sometimes you’ve just got to get in a good binge watch session with your favorite zombie-loving valentine. If that’s what you have in mind for romance this Valentine’s Day, check these shows out:
Santa Clarita Diet
Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant star in this adorable Netflix show as realtors who’s lives are turned upside when Drew’s character Sheila turns into a zombie. Way more than your standard zombie show that delves into the important things about marriage and family, even when or especially when your partner needs to eat people.
iZombie
Easily the best zombie show on air today (sorry Walking Dead). From the creator of Veronica Mars, this zombie police procedural has got mystery, romance, comedy, and intrigue.
In the Flesh
Haven’t heard of this show? It’s time you check it out. It aired on BBC with two seasons and is an intriguing take on what happens if zombies can be treated so that they regain awareness.
3. Mix Up a Drink Fit for a Zombie
Mix up a spicy, sexy drink fit for a zombie! This drink is inspired by iZombie, with spice to tingle zombie tastebuds and the energy drink that started it all – Max Rager.
Ingredients
- “Max Rager” (ie. your energy drink of choice – I used a can of Red Bull)
- Cinnamon whiskey (I used Fireball)
- Club soda
Fill a glass with ice. Add in one and a half shots cinnamon whiskey, one shot “Max Rager,” and top off with club soda. Stir and serve!
4. Cook Up Some Brains
Cook up some delicious brains for your Valentine! Here, I’ll show you how to make an iZombie-inspired brain (shrimp) pizza.
Ingredients
- Frozen pre-cooked shrimp (approximately 15 shrimp)
- Pizza crust dough
- Your preferred pizza sauce
- Mozzarella cheese
- Olive oil
- Tabasco sauce
- Red dye (liquid)
- Pepper, basil, any other spice you desire
Preheat the oven as per the instructions on your pizza dough. Place the dough on a pan. Spread your sauce on and sprinkle with cheese. Bake the pizza as the instructions indicate. While the pizza is in the oven, begin your brain (shrimp) preparations.
Shrimp preparation
Put 15 frozen shrimp into a container in the refrigerator about 24 hours prior so they can thaw properly. While you have the pizza in the oven, take the shrimp out of the fridge. Cut them into halves and thirds, depending on the size of the shrimp, so they form bite size pieces. Place the pieces back into the container and add about 10 drops of red dye. Stir them gently so that the dye covers all of the pieces of shrimp.
Warm two tablespoons of olive in a pan on the stove. Add pepper and spice as desired. Cook the shrimp in the pan for 2-3 minutes, until they’ve warmed up. Take them out and set them aside. If you prepared these while the pizza was in the oven, they should be ready to place on the pizza once it comes out of the oven.
Don’t limit yourself to pizza – these brains (shrimp) look great with any meal!
Pull the pizza out of the oven. Place your brains (shrimp) onto the pizza. Sprinkle a bit of tabasco onto the pizza, for added stimulation of those zombie tastebuds and enjoy!
5. Two Against the World…of Zombies
Plants vs Zombies
Play co-op and versus modes with your valentine. Kill adorable cartoon zombies with equally, if not more so, adorable plants. The weirdest concept that somehow totally makes sense and can make for hours of fun together.
Last Night on Earth
With a multitude of scenarios to play, ranging from easy to ridiculously hard, this game has a little something for everyone. It also has multiple expansions. Be a hero for a night and defeat the zombies!
Note: With two players, one will have to play as the zombies.
Dead of Winter
This game is similar to Last Night on Earth. Control your hero(es), try to survive, and hold back the zombies. Keep members at your base alive and fed through the winter. Each player can pick up a mission specific to them, which makes for added fun.
Zombicide
Not unlike the previous two tabletop games I’ve recommended, except you can level up your hero, which is a nice feature. Also, many expansion options exist.
*Extra Bite of Zombie Fun
Zombie Baking Cups
For when you want to dress up those sweet cupcakes you made for your valentine as zombies!
Hope you have a very romantic, zombie-filled night!
